If the police contact you, request an attorney and stick with that request. The Colorado Supreme Court just ruled that when a suspect stated “Do I need my lawyer for this?” and the officer asked “clarifying questions” that led to a suspect continuing to talk with the police, that was ok. When the suspect continued to talk, that was him “reinitiating” the conversation. So, the lesson here is ask for a lawyer and then do not say anything else! Protect yourself and then let us continue to protect you!
